Best Ticketing Platforms for Events in Germany: A Buyer Guide
Compare pretix, Eventbrite and Ticket Tailor for German events through payment setup, German-language checkout, invoicing, payouts and actual operating costs.
For a German event, start with pretix if you need configurable ticket types, German-language checkout and a choice of payment provider; Eventbrite if its hosted sales and supported German payout setup suit you; and Ticket Tailor if you want a localized checkout with payments going through your connected processor. These are shortlist candidates, not ranked winners. A successful purchase in euros is only one part of a workable German operation.

How we chose this shortlist
This is desk research of public vendor documentation, not product testing, a legal review or an endorsement. We selected products whose official pages describe relevant German/EUR payout availability or localizable checkout. Features depend on plan, processor and configuration. Check current terms; an available checkout does not prove every method is enabled for your event.
Three platforms worth investigating
pretix: configurable events and payment-provider choice
pretix's German-made ticketing site describes online shops, point of sale and access control. Its shop documentation explicitly lists German, Dutch and English shop interfaces, product variations, add-ons and seating plans. Its payment page explains that organizers connect their own payment provider or monitor bank transfers rather than routing attendee funds through pretix. This makes pretix a credible option for a Berlin conference with workshops or a cultural organizer managing different ticket categories.
Fit: Teams willing to configure products, language and payment routing deliberately. Limit: Your own processor account, payment reconciliation and the edition or plugins required for a feature need checking. Hosted and self-hosted pricing differ; the feature catalogue warns that features vary by edition and plugin. Ask for a live example of your exact invoice and refund flow, not just a demonstration checkout.
Eventbrite: hosted discovery and defined German payout options
Eventbrite's processing documentation explicitly lists Germany with EUR payouts and credit/debit cards, SOFORT, PayPal and Klarna as attendee methods for eligible Eventbrite Payment Processing accounts. It also says individual methods can depend on event date and ticket price. This is relevant to an organizer who values an established hosted event page and does not want to assemble a payment stack first.
Fit: An event that can use Eventbrite's eligible German payout route and standard hosted purchase flow. Limit: Do not assume every advertised payment method will display on every checkout. Confirm payout eligibility, timing, refunds and the final buyer-facing fee display with a real event configuration; Eventbrite's payout-method guidance says paid events require a payout method.
Ticket Tailor: localized checkout with connected payments
Ticket Tailor's feature list documents localized event language, currency and timezone settings, multiple checkout languages, and payment via Stripe, PayPal or Square. Its creator page features a Munich-based event organizer. It says ticket revenue enters the organizer's payment-provider account rather than being held by Ticket Tailor. This is worth assessing if you already have a compatible processor and need control over the event's checkout presentation.
Fit: Teams comfortable operating their own payment account and configuring a German-language, EUR event. Limit: A general localization claim is not a guarantee that your chosen processor, local payment method or German document workflow works in your account. Ask the provider to show the exact checkout language and method combination and identify who handles disputes and settlement.
What is different about buying for Germany?
Checkout and correspondence: Test German copy end to end: event description, button text, confirmation, ticket, rescheduling notice and refund email. A translated interface does not automatically translate your own custom fields or terms. If international visitors are expected, test switching languages without losing the details buyers must read. Pretix documents a multilingual shop; ask the others to show your exact buyer journey rather than inferring it from a language selector.
Payment methods and euros: Decide which methods your audience expects, then run test purchases with each enabled method. Eventbrite's country table documents EUR for its German payout country; pretix lists provider integrations including Stripe and Mollie, but each requires its own setup and commercial terms. Ticket Tailor lists currency and processor choices, not a promise that every method will be available to every German account. Confirm the payment currency, payout currency, conversion costs, failed-payment behavior and the point at which an order becomes valid.
Receipts, invoices and accounting: Ask to see a sample customer document for a paid order, a complimentary ticket, a cancellation and a partial refund. pretix describes configurable invoicing and invoice exports and has Germany-specific tax configuration documentation. These are software capabilities, not proof that default settings satisfy your organization's tax obligations. Have your accountant confirm the appropriate tax treatment and required fields; ask every vendor about export formats, numbering, reconciliation and who is responsible for issuing invoices.
Payout ownership: Write down whether the platform, processor or your bank holds funds, when balances become withdrawable and what happens after a chargeback. Pretix and Ticket Tailor describe direct processor arrangements; Eventbrite describes setting up a payout method. Their mechanisms differ, so compare cash-flow timing using your event date and deposit commitments, not only a checkout screenshot.
Costs checklist: request the same quote from each vendor
- Platform fee per paid and free ticket, any minimum, and whether it applies to add-ons or on-site sales.
- Processor fee by payment method; identify separate fees for refunds, disputes, cross-border cards and currency conversion.
- Whether visitors pay a visible service fee, whether you can absorb it, and how totals appear before the final pay button.
- Fees for seating, multi-day events, check-in devices, additional users, domains, integrations and support.
- Payout schedule, settlement currency, bank-account eligibility, and treatment of canceled events and refunded provider fees.
- Setup, migration, training and data export at termination. Compare contracts at your own projected mix of paid, free and refunded tickets.
pretix's hosted pricing explanation distinguishes platform charges from payment-provider fees. Even if a published rate looks straightforward, it cannot replace a written total-cost estimate for your order mix.
Hypothetical buyer test
Imagine a hypothetical organizer selling a German-language conference in Hamburg, with an English-speaking speaker audience, a main admission ticket, a capacity-limited workshop and a few free volunteer places. These are invented requirements, not a report of any real venue. Give each vendor the same script: buy two tickets in EUR, add a workshop for only one guest, request a receipt, refund that workshop, and scan both tickets on arrival. Repeat in German and English and with two different payment methods.
Ask who can change capacity after the first sale and whether a refunded workshop place becomes available again. Export the orders for accounting and compare the resulting amounts to the processor statement. If the vendor needs a plugin, a separate processor contract or manual work, note the cost and responsible staff member. A platform that passes this exercise cleanly for your actual policies is more valuable than a long generic feature list.
Frequently asked questions
Do all three accept German organizers?
Pretix positions itself as made in Germany; Eventbrite lists Germany as a supported EUR payout country; Ticket Tailor features a Munich organizer. Verify your entity and bank/processor eligibility before relying on any option.
Is a German-language shop enough?
No. Check the entire buyer experience, your own event copy, support messages and legal documents. Translate and proofread content you supply yourself.
Can I require SOFORT?
Eventbrite lists SOFORT for eligible German payouts, subject to event-specific availability. Ask any vendor to demonstrate an actual payment-method selection under your chosen setup; do not assume a provider integration enables every method.
Who decides tax settings on a ticket?
Your organization and its advisers must determine the correct treatment. Software may expose tax and invoice settings, but a vendor feature page is not tax advice.
Which platform is cheapest?
There is no universal answer without ticket prices, order mix, processor contract, refund rate and optional modules. Get an itemized written quote for the same scenario from each vendor.
