Zeffy - Event Technology Platform Review
Fundraising and event ticketing for eligible nonprofit organizations, funded by optional supporter contributions.
Zeffy combines fundraising forms and event ticketing for qualifying organizations. Its ticketing overview describes customizable ticket rates, electronic tickets, guest lists, in-person sales and participant reports. That is relevant to a charity running a benefit, a museum fundraiser or a volunteer-led community event that wants ticket sales alongside donations. These are published capabilities, not a test of how a particular event will run.
Eligibility before pricing
Zeffy's eligibility guidance says the organization must be a nonprofit or registered charity with a bank account in its own name. Its country guidance currently lists the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and Germany, with additional location and verification requirements. An individual or ordinary for-profit promoter should not treat this as a universally available free ticket seller. Check your entity, country and bank eligibility *before* advertising a checkout.
The vendor says it does not charge eligible organizations platform or card-processing fees and explains that it asks supporters for an optional contribution at payment confirmation. An optional contribution is part of the buyer experience even when the organizer's ticket proceeds are not reduced by Zeffy fees. Test what a supporter sees with and without a contribution, how ticket prices and donation receipts are presented, and how payout and refunds are accounted for. Do not interpret “free” as a promise that every organization qualifies or that ancillary operating costs disappear.
Operations and data
The public API documentation covers payments, contacts and campaigns and describes API keys for organization owners plus configurable webhooks. That does not establish a ready-made connection to your CRM or a full ticketing-management API. Scope fields, permissions and sync failure handling before commissioning an integration; see the integrations and webhooks guide. Request a sample data export and a walk-through of who may access donor and attendee records.
For a practical demonstration, create a paid admission and a separate donation, change a guest, refund an order and reconcile the proceeds. Record who communicates a cancellation and whether supporter contributions are treated separately from ticket refunds; use the refunds and chargebacks checklist to ask for written policy. Check privacy notices, consent and the accessibility of the actual purchase path using the privacy, accessibility and security checklist. Eligibility and a live configured checkout matter more than a generic “zero fee” headline.
